The England midfielder needs to take a long break to fully recover from a back injury
Ruben Loftus-Cheek will reportedly miss the remainder of January due to the Chelsea midfielder’s back injury flaring up.
Loftus-Cheek was withdrawn inside the opening 45 minutes of Saturday’s FA Cup defeat of Nottingham Forest, with Eden Hazard replacing the 22-year-old after he limped off the pitch.
Though fears were not serious over Loftus-Cheek’s injury, the Evening Standard now say he faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
In fact, the midfielder could be out of action until next month, which means Loftus-Cheek missing the remaining five of Chelsea’s January fixtures.
The Blues have Premier League clashes against Newcastle, Arsenal and Bournemouth to come before the end of the month, with the two-legged Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham also scheduled in.
Loftus-Cheek said of his injury: “It’s not good.
“I have been struggling with it for the last few weeks. I’m going to have to take some proper time out to make sure it heals properly. I’m gutted.”
The young academy graduate joins Chelsea’s growing injury list, which also includes wingers Willian and Pedro – both of whom are doubts for Tuesday’s first leg tie at Spurs’ temporary home of Wembley.
